Tracheostomy is a surgical opening created through the neck to allow direct access
to the trachea to maintain a patent airway. Nurses play a vital role in providing
effective tracheostomy care and safe suctioning to bring down the high risk of
airway obstruction, impaired ventilation as well as infection. The aim of this module
is to equip nurses with knowledge and skills to care for clients with new or existing
tracheostomy.
